Medical Malpractice – Nursing

Every medical procedure involves a nurse and nurses can play an important part in treating a patient. In the United States, there are close to three million registered nurses working in the healthcare sector. Nurses can play a pivotal role and can be involved in assessment, diagnosis, implementation, evaluation, after-care and the administering of medication. Nurses are only human; errors do occur and may lead to medical malpractice cases.

As is the case with doctors, a majority of cases against nurses involve nurses who are not properly qualified. In the US, nursing qualifications are taken very seriously and the nurses should be a registered nurse or RN, which means that the individual has received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and has passed a national examination that is administered by the various state boards of nursing. It is easy to check a nurse’s qualifications, as these are overseen by the American Nurses Association.

Since nurses play such an important role in patient care, even for minor procedures, it makes sense to check that you are in the hands of a qualified nurse.
